Toronto hairdresser accused of child abuse

A Toronto hairdresser was charged on Tuesday with sexually abusing a child under the age of 13, police said.

Ora Thomson, 25, faces five counts of sexual interference. She was arrested on Monday after police received a report of possible sexual abuse.

The investigation began in early 2018, following a man who reported that his daughter had sent several sexually explicit videos of herself to Thomson, said Detective Sgt. Allyson Vanderpool of the Toronto Police Service.

The videos had been sent to Thomson using Kik Messenger, a social media app, Vanderpool said.

Police believe that the abuse has occurred on or around Nov. 14, 2018, according to The Toronto Star. The Sun says the suspect is suspected of abusing more than one child.

The Sun reports that Thomson had worked at the Hair Services of Tangerine Couture salon. A woman who answered the salon’s phone said she was unaware of any news about the arrest.

Investigators believe that other children are also at risk. “We feel that there are more victims involved,” Vanderpool said. “We believe that the victims were abused starting in 2016.”

A message sent to Thomson’s phone on Tuesday was not immediately returned. The Toronto Star reports that she is due in court on Jan. 10.
